Ulrich Bäumer, LL.M. (Washington, DC) is a German lawyer, US Attorney-at-Law (New York) and partner in the international law firm Osborne Clarke in Cologne. He advises the clients of the international law firm mainly in the areas of IT and commercial law (with a focus on inbound and outbound investments with respect to India, North America and UK). He drafts and negotiates complex international IT-project agreements (especially offshore IT outsourcing to India). Furthermore Ulrich Bäumer assists his clients with all other cross-border issues, including litigation. He advises many national and international software developers, outsourcing providers, business consulting firms and commercial enterprises from many industries, mainly however German, Indian, British and American technology firms.

Through his activities over the last seven years he could gather comprehensive experience regarding the Indian legal system and in dealing with Indian clients and colleagues. His established business experience through the advice of his Indian and German clients as well as numerous visits to India made him an expert regarding the Indian market and the Indian law. Mr. Bäumer was one of the first European IT experts that gave a speech on European IT law during the CyberSpace Camp (organised by the ITechLaw Association) in Bangalore in 2005. During his frequent businesses trips to the main Indian economic centres he trained numerous Indian companies on German and European business law. Ulrich will also be a speaker at the next international IT conference in Bangalore in February 2007. He cooperates with many of the well-known Indian law firms regarding legal advice for his German clients in India (e.g. production facilities, distribution, JV, setting up subsidiaries) and also established good working relationships with many of the Indian and German consulting firms.

Ulrich is the author of various articles regarding IT law (among others an article on IT outsourcing in the beginning of 2007 in the Indian Journal of Law & Technology, published by the National Law School in Bangalore). He also gives frequent lectures on current IT issues as well as on Indian law, e.g. in July 2006 (Management Circle in Munich: India –setting up production facilities), in September 2006 (Euroforum / Handelsblatt in Berlin: 2. International Conference on India –with Mr. Glos and Mrs. Meera Shankar), in November 2006 (Management Circle in Cologne: joint venture in India) and in December 2006 (Management Circle in Frankfurt: product piracy in India).

Additionally Mr. Bäumer is a member of the board of the German Asian Business Network, a non-profit association, which assists German companies with their entry into the Asian (especially Indian and Chinese) market and Asian companies with their entry into the German (European) market.
