Dr. Rainer Jäkel is Deputy Director-General for Innovation and Technology Policy and Strategy in the German Ministry of Economics and Labor. He studied at the Universities of Marburg and Bonn (Law) and at the University of Geneva (International Law, French) and holds a Ph.D. in Law.
In the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor he has worked as Deputy Head of Division in various policy areas such as personnel, financing and guarantees, international development policy, and competition policy. In 1991 he was appointed Head of Division for Special Economic Questions relating to German Unification.
In 1999 he transferred to Innovation and Technology Policy, first as Head of Division and since April 2003 as Deputy Director-General.
