Thomas W Rademacher is currently Professor of Molecular Medicine at University College London Medical School. Professor Rademacher obtained a Medical Degree in 1976 and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1980 both at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was co-founder and Clinical and Research Director of the Glycobiology Institute, University of Oxford before moving to University College London in 1991. He is the author of over 150 research publications and holds 50 patents.
In 1988 Professor Rademacher co-founded Oxford GlycoSciences, the first of Oxford University’s biotech spin-outs, which, in 1998, was listed on the London Stock Exchange. After moving to University College London, Professor Rademacher has founded several biotech spin-out companies, including Rodaris Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Lascaux Pharmaceuticals Ltd (1996) and Sylus Pharmaceuticals Ltd (2002). In 2000, he entered a collaboration with the CSIC (Spanish Research Council), and formed Midatech Ltd (2000) as a biotech spin-out of the CSIC, expanding his portfolio of company start ups to include nanomedicine. In 2005, Professor Rademacher initiated the formation of two Midatech Ltd subsidiary companies in Spain; Midatech Andalucia S.L. and Midatech Biogune S.L., the latter of which will become the world’s first GMP manufacturing for glyconanoparticles.
